Bing Announces New SERP Feature
SEOForLunch issue #256 covers Bing's new SERP feature in addition to Google's News bug and tips for blocking websites in its result.
Hi Lunch Buddies!
Happy belated Thanksgiving to my US readers. I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend full of good food and good friends/family.
I was beyond spoiled. My wife cooked everything while I watched football and even took a nap on the couch. Despite being of no help, she still let me have dessert. #blessed. #IhelpedWithDishes

Save time online with Page insights from Microsoft Bing
What's Important:
The Bing team published last week an update announcing their new SERP feature called Page Insights. Users can now preview the content on a page prior to clicking into the listing.
Nick's Take:
This feature makes a lot of sense for high-level search queries. I suspect that users will enjoy getting access to information quicker but site owners will hate it as it will also likely impact click-through rates.

BUG ANNOUNCEMENT: Google News Searches Done With Quotes
What's Important:
Google’s Danny Sullivan tweeted yesterday that a known bug exists where a user searches a query with quotes (in Google News) and the results will display all search results. A fix should resolve the issue on or around December 1st, 2022.
Nick's Take:
This bug isn’t expected to impact any rankings or site performance. However, its possible that if your users are regularly using quotes when your site appears as a top result that your performance may be impacted until this bug is fully resolved.

Google: How to Hide a Website In Search
What's Important:
Google’s John Mueller addresses the three solutions to ensuring search engines don’t serve your site within its search results. These solutions will still allow users to directly navigate (or follow a link) to the site.
Nick's Take:
It’s not often that someone would want an entire site to be blocked from search engines. However, it’s quite common to block specific sections of a site in which John’s recommendations would also work.
