Google Announced A New SEO Robots Tag!
Issue #265 of the SEOForLunch covers Google update on the "indexifembedded" tag, URL structure in addition to 2022+ areas of focus for the search giant.
Hi Lunch Buddies!
Did anyone else watch the NFL playoffs this weekend? Some of the best football I’ve ever watched. So many last-minute wins, impressive comebacks, and even a one-possession overtime victory. If only football could be like this all the time!
In addition to football, we had some family over to celebrate my wife’s birthday. Who can ever turn down a yummy cupcake?
Finally, the SEOForLunch was featured in the Product Hunt Daily Digest last week. A nice warm welcome to all the new subscribers. Happy to have you at the lunch table!

Google Announced New Robots Tag: “indexifembedded”
What's Important:
Google has now made it so that if your content is served through an iframe on a page that otherwise contains a noindex robots tag, the iframed content can be indexed. The snippet below shows you two options for implementing the new tag.
Nick's Take:
My first thought was who still uses iframes? This tag offers a lot of flexibility but I still can’t see a situation where an SEO wouldn’t advocate for any other option before utilizing an iframe. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Podcast
What To Expect From Search Central in 2022?
What's Important:
Google’s John Mueller, Martin Splitt, and Gary Iles discuss content crawling and indexing including making it more efficient and avoiding carbon footprints on the environment. They even talk about the highly anticipated IndexNow and precations they are taking against users spamming it.
Nick's Take:
I always enjoy listening to these three talk on the podcast. It’s pretty obvious where SEOs annoy Googler’s and when even Google employees get confused from their own efforts to help the SEO industry. Looking forward to their updates in 2022+.
Video
Do URL structure changes affect SEO?
What's Important:
John Mueller discusses why URL structure is so important to Google. He further explains how you can approach changing URLs with minimal/no impact.
Nick's Take:
For those who are earlier in their search career, this is a critical video to watch. If you or a client’s website will be going through any URL changes then the proper measures need to be taken. A great video to validate site migration strategy.
