Google I/O SEO Updates + Bing Spam Update
In issue 281 of the #SEOForLunch we cover several official Google + Bing search updates as well as the top articles written over the past week.
Hi Lunch Buddies!
I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend. The weather here in Minnesota couldn’t have been any better, 75 and sunny! In addition to the great weather, it also happened to be the annual fishing opener. I was lucky enough to get out on the water for a few hours and caught myself a few fishies.
Quite a few updates this week so let’s jump right into this week’s #SEOForLunch
P.S. I received a few notes saying this email is going to folks’ spam boxes. Would you do me a favor and click “not spam” before you close out today’s email? Thank you!

What's Important:
Fabrice Canel, Principal Program Manager for Bing announced last Friday that the search engine has deprecated the anonymous sitemap submission feature due to the misuse by spammers.

Google I/O Session: Google Search For Site Owners
What's Important:
Barry Schwartz recaps the pertinent SEO sessions from Google’s recent Google I/O event. The session video is available in this article but one of the biggest takeaways is that video indexing reporting will be coming to Google Search Console soon!
Nick’s Take:
The video indexing report is a great announcement as Google Search Console becomes a clear “must need” tool for all SEOs. The rest of the updates (as Barry calls out) have been previously discussed but serves as a great reminder as so much has been announced/released in the past few months.

How we make every day safer with Google
What's Important:
Jen Fitzpatrick of Google wrote a post discussing the process Google takes to continue to make its search engine safe for everyone to use - including your various Google accounts.
Nick’s Take:
This is less “search” related but since most SEOs are very reliant on Google’s toolset its always good to be aware of the security measures the company is taking to keep everything as safe as possible.

Find local information with multisearch & Scene exploration
What's Important:
Senior VP of Google Prabhakar Raghavan wrote a quick article discussing advancements in Google search — specificically “Multisearch”. Users can now use multisearch to find details around local businesses.
Nick’s Take:
Google continues to make every effort to be a 24/7 solution to nearly anything and everything its users want. No longer does searching require sitting at your desktop but now using your smartphones you can access information/data about pretty much anything you need these days.
