The Search Industry Remembers Bill Slawski
In episode 282 of the #SEOForLunch we review a few Google published resources and content created by the SEO industry from the previous week.
Hi Lunch Buddies!
Hello from New York. I’m meeting up with a client this week to discuss SEO strategy for the second half of the year. While I’ve been to New York before, it is always quite an adjustment each time. Business is getting done and I haven’t been hit by any cars. Sounds like a win/win in my book.
Before we jump into this week’s #SEOForLunch I want to take a moment in honor of fellow SEO Bill Slawski. Bill passed away last week as announced by his employer GoFishDigital. While Bill and I had plenty of fun debates (in private DMs) he has always been a huge contributor to the SEO industry publicly as well. RIP Bill.

Official Search Engine Updates
Google employees Martin Splitt, Gary Illyes, and Alan Kent discuss what the future of the internet is and the benefits (and drawbacks) of Web1.0 and 2.0.
This is an interesting non-search-specific conversation about the direction of the world wide web. We have made so many advancements since web1.0 but I have a feeling the best has yet to come.

Top SEO Resources From Last Week
Olga Zarzeczna, SEOsly.com
You love lists. I love lists. This is a quick and easy list of youtube channels that cover SEO. If you’re looking for more SEO video content this list will definitely keep you busy.
Sarah & Tazmin, The SEO Mindset Podcast
Sarah and Tazmin interview Nick Jemetta about managing stress and anxiety within your SEO career. Mental health is something that still doesn’t get the appropriate coverage that it deserves. This was a phenomenal podcast I think you will all enjoy.
Ross Hudgens, Siegemedia.com
Both Ross and Tom are two individuals that I highly respect so having both of them in the same video/podcast was a “must listen”. Tom breaks down the topic of SEO consulting and what it takes to be good. Good, as Tom explains goes well beyond any site-level changes but requires effective communication.
Adam Gent, The SEO Sprint
Adam has become a regular on this newsletter as he continues to pump out great content. In his most recent publication, Adam talks about a “triad” team which was a new term to me but makes a ton of sense. If you identify your project management as an area of improvement I highly recommend this post… well the entire newsletter.
Edwin Toonen, Yoast.com
This is a great tactical piece on handling out-of-stock items for eCommerce sites. How do you handle products that are out? let them ‘404’? keep as ‘200’ but remove the add to cart functionality or do you redirect the page to another destination? Depending on the answers for a few follow-up questions any of these could be “OK”. If you own/operate a site that has products that come in and out of stock this is a good article for you to review.
You Made It To The Bottom. You’re AWESOME!
